April Newsletter

Montague Golf Club – April 13, 2026
Montague Golf Club will be opening for the 2026 season on Thursday, April 16!
The course came through winter in good shape and we’re pleased to welcome members and guests alike back for another great season of play. Please note, the bunker renovation project is still underway so some bunkers will play as ground under repair to begin the season.
Tee times will be available from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on opening day, this Thursday, as well as on Friday. Tee times will be available from 8-3 on both Saturday and Sunday. Golf carts will be available. The weekly Sunday Morning Group will NOT take place this week but will resume in the coming weeks.
Tee times can be reserved online:

- 18 holes, with a cart, for $59.
- 18 holes, walking, for $35.
Monty’s Bar and Grill isn’t quite ready to open yet, but the bar will be open to help welcome you back. For now, only beer on tap will be available with cans and other drinks to follow at some point next week.

Update from the Super
Montague superintendent Peter Koval and his full crew have been back on the job for over a week now, working to prepare the course for the 2026 season. The first mowing of the season is underway and the course is in good shape coming through winter.
Other projects in the pipeline currently include re-decking the bridge to the back nine, while also firing up and preparing the irrigation system for the season. Also keep an eye out for new hole signs this season. Finally, sod has been ordered to fill in areas such as around the new tee boxes on the 16th hole, as well as bunker surrounds and areas in the rough where tree stumps have been removed.
The Montague grounds crew is looking for any and all old towels you might like to donate to the Club. Bath towels, hand towels, wash cloths, any towel of any size. If you would like to donate, please drop them by the Club any time and they’ll be put to good use.
Let’s have a great 2026 season!
Event Dates – 2026 Season
Montague will host its traditional slate of events this coming season, and perhaps you’ll even notice some additional events being added later on. Here’s an overview of Club events for this coming season, along with event dates, to help with planning out the year. Also, this year we hope to introduce both online registration and online scoring for these events…keep an eye out for more information once the season gets underway.
Nine and Dine — Thursdays from May 14 Onward. This new weekly social event will feature a 9-hole scramble with a shotgun start at 5:00 every Thursday. Registration includes dinner afterwards, and weekly prizes will be paid out in clubhouse credit. You can sign up as a foursome, or as single, two, or three players and you’ll be paired up to fill foursomes. The included dinner option will change week to week. Check the Montague website and social media as the season begins for more information.
Match Play Championship — Beginning on Monday, June 15, two weeks earlier than the last few years. This event features players in various flights being grouped in 16-player brackets to determine 2026 Montague Match Play Champions. You’ll have three weeks to arrange and play first-round matches, followed by two weeks for each match in subsequent rounds. Various flight winners should be determined by late August. More details will be released during the early part of the golf season.
Member-Member — Saturday, June 27. This event will likely return as it was played the last two years, as a one-day 27 hole partner event with a different format each nine holes, including a partner scramble for the final nine holes.
Women’s Member-Guest — Saturday, July 18. As with previous years, this event will feature an 18-hole gross/net contest with women members and guests. A post-round meal and prize ceremony will also be included.
Men’s Member-Guest — Saturday-Sunday, August 8-9. The men’s member-guest will continue with its traditional format, 45 holes featuring five nine-hole match play matches over two days in flights of six teams. Tournament entry will be capped at 42 teams and we hope to either fill this event, or come close to it. An optional Friday competition will also be part of the event. New this year, we’ll be engaging with potential sponsors in an effort to decrease entry fees for this event while still providing a great experience for the players.
Club Championship — Saturday-Sunday, August 22-23. The 2026 Montague Club Champions will be crowned following 36 holes of stroke play over two days. The field will be broken into various flights, including Open (men’s gross), men’s net, women’s gross, women’s net, senior gross, senior net, and junior.
Frozen Fingers — Saturday, October 31. This year’s season-closing event will take things in a spooky direction with play on Halloween Day! You can expect plenty of drink specials as we look to cap the season on a high note.
2026 Men’s League
Montague will continue to host its popular men’s league this coming season, with play on both Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Men’s League will begin on May 5/6 and run through the end of August, with the league banquet tentatively scheduled for the first week of September.
If interested in playing in the men’s league, you must be a Montague member in good standing and have paid your $50 league dues, or you must have prior approval from Montague to participate. Spots in the league are filling up quickly, but you can still register for a spot by filling out the form linked below. There’s always a big need for substitute players, so even if interested in only being a sub please be sure to register.
If interesting in playing in the 2026 Men’s League, please complete the registration form here: https://tinyurl.com/2026MontagueMensLeagueSignUp
Note: If you played last season and do not intend to play in 2026, please indicate this on the form. Also, if the league committee does not hear from you, we assume you do not want to play this season.
Any questions regarding Men’s League for 2026 should please be addressed to members of the league committee, two of which are David Narkewicz (david.narkewicz@gmail.com) and Randy Whitney (UH60whit@tds.net).
2026 Women’s League
Calling all Ladies!
The Montague Ladies League begins their season Thursday, May 7 with a shotgun start at 5:00 p.m. and continues each Thursday throughout the summer capping off our season with a banquet in early September. Teams of two are arranged based on handicap, making it fair across the league, playing weekly against another two-some. Points are earned on each hole for a maximum of 9 points per two-some for each round; points are tallied throughout the year for end of year awards. Many choose to stay and enjoy a post-round meal and beverage at the conclusion of league each Thursday, cementing friendships, sharing a few jabs and great laughter.
All skill levels are welcome!
We hope you consider joining the league either as a regular or a sub. If interested please reach out to Sandy Bingham (dandylion58@yahoo.com) or Penny Maxfield (pmaxfield@giffordhealthcare.org).
