Playing the golf course is typically the main the reason why you come to any golf club. When you arrive and begin to play, it quickly becomes evident that there's a great deal of skill, hard work, thoughtful design, and attention to detail behind every tee box, fairway and green. Let us introduce you to the men who are "behind the scenes."

Director of Golf & Course Superintendent

The person responsible for everything outside the clubhouse is Montague's award-winning veteran Course Superintendent Garry Crothers who came to Montague and has helped change the entire course around!  Garry came to Montague for the challenge of bringing this mature course to the next level, to offer you the best Central Vermont golfing experience.

We're very happy to have Garry and his dedicated staff at Montague!

Course Maintenance Staff

As you play the course, a bunch of seemingly "faceless" men patrol the course with various pieces of equipment cutting, removing, pruning, and resetting cup positions.  These men also love what they do and rarely receive the credit that they deserve.  Consider the fact that most of us are only cutting our lawns once every 5 days, and then think about an eighteen hole golf course.  That's a lot of grass to cut in addition to the greens, fringe, and sand trap maintenance.

Greens people such as John Palmer, Elwin Preston, Gordon Harding and several others all share a love for the game of golf, and the impact they have on the course's condition. You can see it in their work, and you can hear it in their voice. Montague is blessed with good greens people.
