Since 1913 Montague Golf Club has been open for play and in fact, it is the second longest operating golf course in Vermont. Originally started as a short nine-hole course on the top plateau, the club expanded by placing three holes in the lower section thus opening up and lengthening the other six holes. Through the years, the front nine layout has changed many ways such as direction, length, order, and green location. However the front nine still remains a fairly tight design with trees separating most fairways and strategically placed bunkers protecting the holes. Similar to older courses, the greens on the front are small in size and they demand accuracy. Montague's back nine is more of an open "links-style" with rolling fairways, swirling wind and the sloping land. Incorporating many suggestions from golf course designer Geoffrey Cornish, the fairways are sandwiched by thick rough and tall heather grass. Keeping the ball in the fairway is truly your best strategy to be successful on the back nine. This combination makes for a very interesting eighteen holes of golf. Although Montague is currently not a very long course, these two distinct styles come together as a wonderful test for any golfer. |
| Montague Golf Club is eighteen-hole golf course serving the greater Randolph community and Central Vermont. Montague offers a practice area and green, and a newly renovated friendly clubhouse with food, beverages and lounge area. The pro shop is operated by Golf Director Robert Hanlon and he has a great selection of logo clothing and golf accessories. Montague has improved the course during the last three seasons, thanks to award-winning Course Superintendent Garry Crothers and his staff. Some of these changes included new greens, new bunkers including a change to our sand, brand new tee boxes, and we added length to many holes on the front and back. All of these improvements were designed for increased challenge, improved aesthetics and most importantly, fun while playing Montague. | ![]() |
